Many credentials earned through Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) courses at FCC can be converted to academic credits. Advance your career by applying those credits toward a degree, certificate, or transfer program. Complete your CEWD courses, earn your industry credential, and receive academic credit.

Programs Eligible for Credit Conversion
The following CEWD workforce training programs can result in industry credentials that are eligible for academic credit conversion. Select a program area below to find the specific courses to take, credentials to earn, and academic credits available.
Project Management
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing
- Pass the Project Management Professional (PMP®) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) Exam to receive a globally recognized credential and become a recognized project management professional through the Project Management Institute.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in the Business Administration or Business Management degree program.
- Receive academic credit for BMGT 290 - Project Management (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Home Inspector
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing CPD323 - Home Inspection Pre-Licensure.
- Pass the National Home Inspector Examination to become a licensed Maryland Home Inspector.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in the Business Administration or Business Management degree program.
- Receive academic credit for BMGT elective (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Real Estate
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing REA278 - Maryland Real Estate Licensing Preparation.
- Pass the Maryland Real Estate License Exam to become a licensed Maryland Real Estate Agent.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in the Business Administration or Business Management degree program.
- Receive academic credit for BMGT elective (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
CompTIA A+
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing
- Pass the CompTIA A+ Certification Exam to become a CompTIA A+ Certified Professional.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in an FCC credit course or program.
- Receive academic credit for CMIS 120 - PC Operating Systems (3 credits), CMIS 121 - PC Repair and Diagnostics (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing
- Pass the Maryland Board of Nursing CNA Certification Exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- With a valid CNA license issued by Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, or the District of Columbia Board of Nursing, enroll in an FCC credit course or program. (Applicable if you declared the Medical Assisting AAS or Certificate program prior to Fall 2025.)
- Receive academic credit for MEDA 109 - Medical Terminology (3 credits), MEDA 111 - Basic Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Assistant (3 credits), MEDA 117 - Foundations of Medical Assisting I (3 credits), HLTH ELECT - Health Elective (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Phlebotomy Technician
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for an industry exam either independently or by successfully completing
- Pass one or more of the following exams to become a Phlebotomy Technician
- National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT)
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT)
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- If you declared the Medical Assisting AAS or Certificate program prior to Fall 2025, receive academic credit for MEDA 109 - Medical Terminology (3 credits), MEDA 111 - Basic Anatomy and Physiology for Medical Assistant (3 credits), MEDA 115 - Medical Laboratory Procedures (3 credits), MEDA 204 - Medical Assisting Practicum II (2 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Medical Coding
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing
- Pass the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Exam to become a Certified Professional Coder (CPC)®.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in an FCC credit course or program.
- Receive academic credit for MEDA 203 - Diagnostic and Procedural Coding (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Culinary Medicine
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully progressing through Tier III and Tier II coursework
- Pass the Certified Culinary Medicine Professional (CCMP) Certification Exam to earn Tier I: Certified Culinary Medicine Professional.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in the Culinary Arts & Supervision degree program.
- Receive academic credit for NUTR 102 - Nutrition in a Changing World (3 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Sanitation and Food Safety
Step 1: Earn Industry Credential
- Prepare for the exam either independently or by successfully completing HCT117 - Sanitation and Food Safety.
- Pass the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam to become a ServSafe Certified Food Protection Manager.
Step 2: Receive Academic Credit
- Enroll in Culinary Arts & Supervision AAS or the Culinary Skills Certificate program.
- Receive academic credit for HCTI 101 - Sanitation and Food Safety (2 credits) by contacting Registration and Records at [email protected] or 301.846.2431.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) Certificate
Step 1: Complete Training
- Complete the following workforce training courses
- Pass each final exam with a B or higher.
