Program Information

The Communication Area of Concentration within Arts and Humanities A.A. is designed for students interested in all fields stressing human interaction. In addition to communication courses, a broad range of social science and humanities courses are recommended. The area of concentration is designed to prepare the student to transfer to a four-year institution.

Success in the program is defined by your ability to apply what you’ve learned in real-world scenarios. This program ensures that every student achieves the following core competencies:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills via a well-designed and well-delivered oral presentation.
  • Use appropriate presentation techniques.
  • Demonstrate effective discussion, negotiation, conflict resolution, and cooperation skills.
  • Apply relevant criteria and standards when evaluating information, claims, and arguments.
  • Use appropriate reasoning to evaluate problems, make decisions, and formulate solutions.
  • Demonstrate appropriate methods of integrating and documenting outside sources.
  • Demonstrate effective listening behaviors in both interpersonal and group situations.
