Stephen G. Slater, Esq.
Current Term: 2026 - 2029
What role has FCC played in your life and what makes it important to you?
My mother was an English and American Literature professor at FCC for over 30 years and served in many instructional leadership roles. My father was an FCC adjunct professor in American History for many years while practicing law. Education and learning were a central focus of my household, and my siblings and I all took classes at FCC. Later, my younger brother was an adjunct in Sociology, and I was an adjunct in American Government. My wife and both our children also took classes at FCC. It has always been a source of learning and a springboard to further education for my entire life, and I am proud to be able to help FCC continue its vision and mission.
What did you most enjoy or learn from your teaching experience at FCC?
By far the most enjoyable part of teaching was the interaction with the students and the perspective they brought to the subject matter. A great strength of FCC is the wide range of backgrounds of its student body, which brings rich experiences and opinions to the learning experience.
