American Sign Language (ASL) Studies Area of Concentration within Arts & Humanities A.A.
Introduces students to the rich history and culture of the Deaf community. Students will gain fluency and mastery of American Sign Language (ASL) by acquiring foundational skills and knowledge of the Deaf community.

American Sign Language
The American Sign Language program is designed to introduce students to the history, culture, and community of the Deaf. Students work towards gaining fluency and mastery of American Sign Language by acquiring foundational skills, vocabulary, acceptance and knowledge of the Deaf community, and by gaining an understanding of this unique non-verbal language. Students gain confidence by becoming involved in the Deaf community through coursework and internships.

American Sign Language Interpreter Preparatory Program

The Sign Language Interpreter Preparatory Program offers degree and certificate programs designed to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, and practical experience to become successful working interpreters. Courses teach theoretical, ethical, cultural and practical knowledge of the interpreting field, as well as cognitive processing skills to effectively interpret to prepare students for entry-level sign language interpreter positions or to transfer to a four-year college or university.

Art
The Art Area of Concentration enables students to explore and develop areas of concentration which may lead to an associate in arts degree, transfer to a four-year college or university program, or to pursue individual artistic directions.

Communication
The Communication Area of Concentration is designed for students interested in all fields stressing human interaction. Communication courses teaches students how to create messages appropriate to the audience, purpose, and context, critically analyze messages, ethically apply communication principles and practices, and utilize communication to embrace difference. In addition to communication courses, a broad range of social science and humanities courses are recommended. This option is designed to prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university.

The English Area of Concentration prepares students at every skill level for success in their academic, workplace, and personal lives by strengthening their analytical reading, effective writing, informational literacy, and critical thinking skills. Our composition and literature courses enable students to research, analyze, summarize, interpret, synthesize, assess, and communicate responsibly, as well as explore a wide variety of cross-cultural works in evolving media that encourage students to appreciate diverse texts and the human experience.

The Film & Video Production program is designed for students whose career goals are oriented toward the mass media in the fields of multimedia production. Industry-standard software and equipment provides students with prevalent tools and hands-on training in the pre-production, production, and post-production of video. This program prepares students for careers in media production.

The Graphic Design program is for students whose career goals are oriented toward design for mass media. Students will learn to produce design for publications, illustration, photography, public relations, presentations communications, web, and video.

Designed to teach students to critically examine all types of media including film, television, advertising, journalism, and digital media to understand how it impacts, and is impacted by, society.

The Music program provides the first two years of a four-year degree program for students planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in music performance, music education, music history, music technology or composition.
