Frederick Community College (FCC) honored students from its Hospitality, Culinary & Tourism Institute (HCTI) during a celebratory recognition ceremony at 200 Monroe, the College’s student-run gourmet restaurant. Surrounded by family, faculty, and community members, the students were applauded for their hard work, resilience, and the professionalism they’ve developed throughout the program.
FCC President Dr. Annesa Payne Cheek welcomed guests with heartfelt remarks that highlighted the unique power of this learning environment.
“This space captures the essence of what we do at FCC—real learning, applied talent, and a whole lot of teamwork,” said Dr. Cheek. “You’ve prepped, plated, endured business presentations, and served your way to this moment.”
Dr. Cheek also emphasized the promising outlook for graduates, noting that Frederick County welcomed 1.9 million visitors in 2023, generating more than $539 million in tourism revenue and supporting over 6,100 jobs in the sector. “Not only did you choose the right school to pursue your career studies,” she said, “but you are living in the right county, ripe with opportunity.”
The event included recognition of the HCTI faculty and staff, along with gratitude for the students’ families and supporters. “The secret sauce in all of you,” Dr. Cheek added, “are the people gathered around you tonight who have stood by you along the journey.”
The HCTI Recognition Ceremony marks the culmination of students’ work in a hands-on capstone experience, where they plan, prepare, and serve full-course dinners to the public at 200 Monroe. The program combines culinary instruction, business knowledge, and service management—preparing students for careers in restaurants, hotels, catering, event planning, and more.
