You will need to complete medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology I and 2, and a communications course before starting the surgical technology (ST) program.

During this session you can place a request for preferred clinical site assignments and will be sized for customized, sterile OR gowns and gloves.
Please confirm that you understand that orientation is mandatory:

Attending a JOB SHADOW day with a ST, at a community hospital of your choice, is robustly encourage. In the event of a tie on the point scale, those attending Job Shadowing will be given preference. You may go to the Frederick Memorial Hospital webpage to apply for a Job Shadow day Contact the FMH Education Department, and follow the instructions for returning the application and paperwork. The operating room educator, Sharon Chilton, RN, will be your mentor during the shadow day in the OR with a surgical technologist. It will take a few weeks to arrange for this Job Shadow day.

** Note:  Those who have completed Job Shadowing will be provided priority admittance into the program when points are tied.

I will submit proof of attendance to the ST program manager before the application deadline. Refer to the website for instructions on submitting proof of attendance.

ST Application Tips

1. Register with the college as a FCC student and select or change your major to the ST Certificate or ST AAS degree.

2. Send your all of your OFFICIAL (Transfer) TRANSCRIPTS for all of the courses to be transferred into the ST program to the FCC REGISTRAR By April 1 or September 1.  All courses for the ST program must be a “C” grade or higher. Refer to the Point Scale.

3. Complete Medical Terminology, and Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, and a communications course  BEFORE the ST program begins.

4. Other requirements, prior to beginning clinical rotations in November, or March include: Proof of Immunizations, History and Physical examination, American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider, criminal background check, drug screening, and fingerprinting.  CPR courses fill up quickly, so please register for this training soon.

**Note:Anyone on the Waiting List should attend Orientation.
If you have been accepted into the Program and do not attend Orientation then your seat will be offered to those on the Waiting List who attend orientation.
