Communication, Arts & Languages

About Our Department

Communication, Arts and Languages (CAL), one of the most dynamic and robust academic departments at FCC, offers credit and noncredit instruction leading to transfer degrees and career program certifications. The disciplines within CAL include American Sign Language and ASL Interpreting, Arts, Audio Production, Communication, Film and Video Production, Graphic Design, Music, Theatre, and World Languages.

Our instruction emphasizes experiential learning, whether in the art, design or music studio, the ASL Lab or in the classroom. Students learn and develop skills through instruction from educators who are professionals in their area of specialization and expertise.

CAL enriches our community through events held in the Visual and Performing Arts Center, which is home to many of the programs within CAL. The Jack B. Kussmaul Theater and the Mary Condon Hodgson Gallery host events throughout the year which provide our students with unique opportunities to engage not only with their campus community, but also with our local and regional community.

Spotlights

The “FCC Student Film Festival” is an annual film fest hosted by the Film and Video Program at Frederick Community College. Students who are enrolled in the Film and Video program or have taken a film class in this program at the college have the unique opportunity to screen their work in the festival amongst family, friends, and the community. It’s a night of artistic expression via stories created by our very own students.  View more
