FCC Named to Military Friendly Schools List for Second Straight Year

11/17/2016

Frederick Community College has been designated a 2017 Military Friendly School by Victory Media, which connects veterans to educational and job opportunities.

The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to support military students and dedicate resources to ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. This is the second straight year that FCC has been awarded this designation.

“Having this national recognition as a Military Friendly School is a significant honor for our College and community,” Veteran Services Director Rachel Nachlas said. “Our student veterans have truly answered the call of duty by protecting our country and we believe it’s our mission to show our gratitude by supporting their post-military goals and dreams in any way we can. We hope this designation will help more student veterans learn about the many services we have at FCC.”

Educational institutions competed for the Military Friendly School designation by providing information on topics such as military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies. Each year, the list of Military Friendly Schools is provided to service members and their families, helping them select the best college, university, or trade school to receive the education and training needed to pursue a civilian career.

FCC Veteran Services offers academic and support services for veterans enrolling in classes at FCC to help them transition to civilian and college life. The department focuses on guiding veterans in adapting the skills they develop from military training and combat experience to the classroom. It also provides a one-stop shop where veterans and their families can get all the information and assistance they need, including help with the admissions process, interpretation of VA regulations, campus referrals, educational planning, counseling, and more.

Veterans Services also sponsors a Veterans Club and Veterans Center which give student veterans the opportunity to get to know and support one another.

FCC will be showcased along with the other 2017 Military Friendly Schools in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, G.I. Jobs, Military Spouse magazine, and on www.MilitaryFriendly.com
