Green Training & LEED Exam Preparation Courses

All green training courses will be offered in November and December. Check back soon for specific course dates and times. Courses will be held at FCC's Advanced Workforce Training Center on Monroe Avenue.

LEED Certification Training
Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) is the standard by which commercial and residential building projects are measured for green and sustainable design and construction. Frederick Community College, in partnership with the US Green Building Council‘s Western Maryland Branch, will offer courses designed to prepare students to sit for LEED exams. Courses are a single day.

Green Advantage Training
Launched in 1998, the Green Advantage Certification was created with support from the U.S. EPA, SAIC, the Nature Conservancy, and the University of Florida is aimed at workers in the construction and building industry. Green Advantage certified contractors and subcontractors receive a LEED Innovation Credit. The two day course will prepare students for an open book Green Advantage test. This course is offered in partnership with Sustainable Design Consulting, a Green Advantage Authorized Training Organization.

Energy Auditor and Weatherization Training
This emerging field employs workers who conduct weatherization projects for homeowners. Crews conduct analyses of existing energy uses and inefficiencies, and learn specific methods to address energy waste and thereby allow homeowners to realize substantial savings in energy costs. In partnership with the Maryland Energy Administration and the Maryland department of Housing and Community Development, courses are one full week in length (35 hours).

Why Take an LEED Exam Prep Course?
FCC's LEED Exam Prep courses include live, in-class instruction with a complete review of LEED credit categories, LEED rating systems, and the LEED building certification process, hundreds of simulated exam questions, a practice exam, worksheets, and strategies for passing the exam.

Who Should Take Green Training Courses?

LEED Accredited Professional + specialty courses are designed for architects, general contractors, home builders, interior designers, engineers, developers, facilities managers, etc. For those planning to take a LEED Accredited Professional + specialty course, the Green Associate exam represents the first part of the specialty exam. Instead of taking one 4-hour exam, it can be broken down into two 2-hour exams, providing a better chance of passing both parts (cost is the same either way).

Those who do not plan to take a LEED Accredited Professional + specialty (bankers, realtors, property managers, leasing agents, developers, specialty contractors, building officials and inspectors, facilities managers and maintenance personnel, building material manufacturers, insurance agents, attorneys, accountants, interior decorators, financial services advisors, corporate social responsibility professionals, etc.), can also benefit from taking the Green Associate course, as it can:

Provide better competitive positioning (whether looking for employment or bidding on a job);

Provide added value to clients by understanding products / systems that may save them money;

Turn more bids into jobs by demonstrating long-term value & cost savings;

Identify niches to broaden service base during times of economic uncertainty;

Provide the ability to bid on jobs requiring knowledge of green building practices
