President’s Business Appreciation Awards Will Highlight Local Leaders

Frederick Community College will recognize local business partners as part of the President’s Business Appreciation Awards. Recipients will be recognized for their commitment, contributions, and support of the College mission and its students.

The four award recipients will be officially recognized at the President’s Business Appreciation Awards Breakfast on Monday, May 9 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Student Center.

The recipients this year are:

Business Partner of the Year – WLR Automotive Group, Inc.
WLR Automotive Group, Inc. has shown an exceptional commitment to FCC through repeat customized training engagements with FCC Business Solutions and contributions to the FCC Foundation. WLR embraces employee development by investing in training opportunities and providing a generous educational assistance benefit to all employees. The company believes in bettering its local community through charitable contributions to organizations that share their purpose of changing lives through education, opportunity, and service, including sponsorships of the FCC Alumni Association and Athletics Department annual golf tournament to benefit student scholarships.

Non-Profit Partner of the Year – Ann Ryan
Ann Ryan, Director of Family Services for the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick, partners closely with the FCC Office of Adult Services to help residents of public housing improve their education and find employment. She supports, encourages, and advocates for these residents and helps them believe they can attend college or complete a training program.  Ann refers numerous residents to FCC and helps them fund their education or training through the Frederick City Project ALIVE program. Additionally, Ann has secured external funding resources to help these students pay for childcare or transportation to ensure they can attend class.  Ann’s work has gone a long way in supporting the FCC goal of providing access to education for all.

Business Donor of the Year – Scott Electric Company
Scott Electric has supported the FCC Foundation since 2014, when the company first became employee-owned. Scott Electric, an electrical distributor and supply store, understands the importance of investing in its local community and has supported schools and hospitals in the area. Since 2014, the company has provided $20,000 in support of FCC students and programs. This financial support has enabled the FCC Foundation to assist a greater number of students as they work toward their academic and professional goals.

Business Leader of the Year – Dr. Amir Rashidian
Dr. Amir Rashidian, of the Mid Atlantic Chiropractic Center, has been a longtime member of the FCC Medical Assistant Advisory Team. His office serves as an extern site for the Medical Assistant program as well as the Healthcare Practice Management program. Dr. Rashidian has supported FCC in many other ways, including as a frequent guest lecturer on the topic of the nervous system and as a speaker at the Medical Assistant Pinning Ceremony. He recognizes the critical role a medical assistant plays in the healthcare field and he has helped students understand the importance of building a healthier generation and promoting wellness as a lifestyle.
