01/21/2015
Frederick Community College’s Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) will host its Spring 2015 Open House on Friday, Feb. 13 where guests can explore opportunities for lifelong learning, meet ILR instructors, and register for classes.

ILR offers enjoyable and affordable classes and programs for intellectual stimulation and personal enrichment for adults age 55 and older in Frederick County.

“Our ILR students share a love of life and learning, and this open house is a great chance to hear more about the variety of exciting opportunities we offer,” said ILR Program Manager Sue Adams. “Whether you want to explore technology, history, photographs, or health and fitness, it’s likely we have a class that will help you discover something new and enjoyable.”

The open house will take place on campus from 9:30 a.m. to noon in H202/203, located in the Classroom/Student Center. The new spring course schedule will be presented at 10 a.m.

Of the 72 courses on tap for spring, 25 are new, including courses on history, literature, program music, eating locally, fly fishing, Van Gogh, the human immune system, nuclear electricity, and more.

Popular series courses such as the ILR Middle East studies program with Linda Pappas Funsch, Medically Curious with Dr. Larry Romane, and American History with colonial historian Roger Swartz will also be offered.

This spring will also feature a special one-day program called “The Life and Times of Charles Carroll – Frederick’s Signer of the Declaration of Independence,” as well as day tours and international travel opportunities.

ILR offers short, casual classes, field trips and special events. Classes begin and end at varying times throughout the term. There are no tests, grades, or homework.
