FCC Students to Compete for Scholarships at 1st Annual Oktoberfest German Potato Salad Contest
Frederick Community College students in the Hospitality, Culinary, and Tourism Institute (HCTI) will compete for $2,000 in scholarship money at the First Annual Oktoberfest German Potato Salad Contest. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek and the FCC Foundation.
The winning recipe will be featured at Frederick’s Oktoberfest on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Frederick Fairgrounds and at the Second Annual FCC Fest on Saturday, October 7th
on the main FCC campus.
The Rotary Club of Carroll Creek is offering $1,000 in scholarship money, which is being matched by the FCC Foundation. The first place winner will receive a $1,000 HCTI scholarship, the second place winner will receive a $600 HCTI scholarship, and the third place winner will receive a $400 HCTI scholarship.
“We thank the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek and the FCC Foundation for supporting our talented students and making this exciting new event possible,” said Elizabeth DeRose, HCTI Manager. “It’s a great opportunity for all our students and will be especially incredible for the winning student to take part in preparing his or her own recipe to serve at one of Frederick’s most popular annual events, Oktoberfest.”
There will be two rounds of judging at the Monroe Center. The first round will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, when a group of students will be chosen to advance to the final round. The final round will take place at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 15, where the winner will be announced.
The competition is open to any FCC student who is currently enrolled in the HCTI program and able to assist in producing their recipe during Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.
