Frederick Community College students will travel to Annapolis to join hundreds of students from community colleges across the state for Student Advocacy Day on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018.
 
During the annual event, sponsored by the Maryland Association of Community Colleges, students encourage lawmakers to keep community college affordable. Students thank legislators for their support of community college education and funding and share stories about how access to a community college has impacted their lives.
 
“Our focus on Student Advocacy Day is to encourage funding support of community colleges, but it is also a powerful opportunity for our students to hear how FCC has personally impacted the lives of members of our local delegation – as most of our elected officials have either attended FCC or have family members who do or have,” said Jeanni Winston Muir, Director of the Center for Student Engagement. “Sharing stories with one another allows all of us to reflect upon the real point of our visit which is that community colleges change lives and prepare students to realize their goals and dreams.” 
 
The FCC students will spend the day in the Miller Senate Office Building, where they will participate in a welcome rally and hear from senators and delegates from across the state before meeting with the Frederick County delegation.
