FCC's Monroe Center Restaurant Featured Site for International Italian Restaurant
10/22/2014
Frederick Community College's Monroe Center restaurant, 200 Monroe, was recently the featured site for a week-long training contract with Carluccio’s Italian Restaurant, an international restaurant company with over 100 locations in Europe and the Middle East.  Headquartered in London, England, the restaurant chain is coming to the U.S. in 2015 and required the use of a modern commercial kitchen to develop its U.S. menu while the first U.S. location is under construction.

FoodPRO, a Frederick based wholesale food distribution company, recommended the Monroe Center to Carluccio’s. When the U.S. CEO and Executive Chef visited the site in mid-September they found it to be ideal for their purposes. FCC’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development office (CEWD) then developed a contract providing use of the restaurant, its equipment, and lab support for the term of the service. In addition, several FCC culinary students were hired to assist Carluccio’s executive chef throughout the week. On the final day, Carluccio’s executive team flew in from London for a private tasting at the Monroe Center. Pleased with our facility, they were also impressed by the level of knowledge exhibited by our culinary staff and students.

With FCC's culinary staff and faculty flexibility, access to 200 Monroe and the longstanding relationship we have with FoodPRO, FCC made an invaluable connection with one of the world’s premier restaurant companies.

This partnership is an excellent example of Frederick Community College's partnership capabilities with local businesses and utilization of our specialty spaces.
