College Credit Conversion for FEMA Independent Study (IS) Courses

Convert FEMA Independent Study courses to college credits

MACEM is proud to be the sole provider of college credit for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Independent Study (IS) program. Nearly 80 online courses are currently available with additional courses added every year. Participants are encouraged to convert and apply credits to further their professional career or apply credits toward an Emergency Management academic program.
College Credit Conversion Process
  1. Visit to browse the list of eligible FEMA Independent Study (IS) courses.
  2. Go to FEMA’s Independent Study website to take Independent Study (IS) courses online.
  3. Return to and complete the application to convert coursework. Tip for new EM-Study users: to get started, click “Register Now” in the User Login box on the left of the page. The conversion process takes approximately four weeks. Rush service is not available.

Important Notes
  • Credit cost is $79 per credit hour
  • FEMA Independent Study (IS) course conversion process takes approximately four weeks. Rush service is not available.
  • Please allow necessary processing time to receive credits within the desired academic semester. Review the Frederick Community College Academic Calendar to plan accordingly.
  • After you place your order, FCC will send two separate email processing status updates to the email address on file:
    1. The first email, sent upon FCC’s receipt of your order, will contain an estimated completion date.

    2. The second email will be sent once credits are awarded and transcript(s) have been mailed to you via USPS First- Class Mail®. Visit for standard delivery service timeframes.
Place order no later than 5/1/2014 (4 weeks prior to the end of the Spring 2014 semester) if you wish for your FEMA IS courses to post during the Spring 2014 semester on transcripts.

*If an order is placed after 5/1/14 there is a strong possibility that courses will post to the Summer  2014 semester on FCC transcripts. Students are responsible for reviewing the Frederick Community College Academic Calendar dates prior to placing an order with and must plan accordingly.
