International Admissions Process


International StudentsApplying for admission to FCC and getting your travel documents are two separate processes.    Acceptance to the college is determined internally here at FCC and the other is determined by the U.S. Federal Government.  Both require certain documents to determine eligibility to legally enter the U.S. and study at a U.S. college or university.

The following is a step-by-step process for admission to the college for students wanting to come to the U.S. from their home country and needing an I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility) form.
  1. Complete and submit an admissions application with local (Frederick County, Maryland) sponsor’s address and student’s address from their home country.
     
  2. Submit an official high school (secondary school) transcript evaluation; if your transcripts are not in English, they must be translated into English before they will be accepted. We need to see that you have the equivalent of a U.S. high school education. We accept evaluations from World Education Services www.wes.org. Ask for the WES Basic Evaluation - Document by Document evaluation.
     
  3.  Submit proof of a local (Frederick County, MD) sponsor who will agree to provide housing, meals, transportation, and health care.  FCC has no on-campus housing; therefore, all international students must secure housing with a local sponsor.  The local sponsor should be a close relative or other responsible individual.     
         
  4. Submit I-134 Affidavit of Support - a statement of financial resources including the amount and source of support for the prospective student (see attached forms). The College is unable to provide scholarship assistance to international student applicants. The approximate cost of tuition, fees, books, and living expenses per year is $23,000. Students attending the college on the F Visa will be classified as out-of-state residents for tuition purposes while at FCC.
     
  5. Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have the scores submitted directly to the Records and Registration Center.  Minimum acceptable score is 500 on the paper-based test, 173 on the computer-based test or 61 on the internet-based test.
All materials must be received by June 1 for fall admission and October 15 for spring admission.

The I-20 is issued at the time the student is formally accepted and admitted to the college once the above listed documents have been received and evaluated for minimum requirements.   Once accepted, you will be required to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee.  The SEVIS I-901 fee is mandated by Congress to support the program office and the automated system that keeps track of students and ensures that they maintain their status while in the U.S.  Each student issued an initial I-20 is responsible for paying this fee to SEVP.  The fee must be paid in advance of your visa appointment and proof of purchase must be brought with you to your appointment.  For more information on the fee and how to pay you can visit:  www.fmjfee.com.

Students are expected to arrive no later than August 10 for fall and January 10 for spring.
