10 Steps to A Career

  1. Assess Skills and Interests
    Encourage taking the online career assessment Focus2 to identify interests, skills, values, and personality.  This links to majors and careers for consideration.

  2. Get Expert Advice
    Talk with an Career Advisor to discuss and interpret results.

  3. Research Jobs
    Visit O’Net to learn more about careers, employment outlook, skills needed for careers, educational requirements, and salaries by region.

  4. Ask Questions
    Conduct informational interviews or job shadows with professionals in fields of interest.

  5. Make a Resume
    Create a college-level resume and seek assistance from the FCC Career Advisors.  Resume samples can be found on College Central Network the Careers and Jobs Library Guide.

  6. Gain Experience
    Acquire work-related experience through part-time jobs and internships.  Search for opportunities through College Central Network.  Talk with the FCC Internship & Apprenticeship Coordinator.

  7. Get Involved
    Build additional experience and leadership skills through service-learning and clubs and organizations.

  8. Stay Informed
    If planning on pursuing a bachelor's degree, meet with your academic advisor to discuss transfer options, pathways, and course equivalencies.

  9. Learn How to Search
    Learn the most effective techniques of the job search and the art of networking.  Strategize with the FCC Career Advisors.

  10. Network
