Ausherman Appointed to FCC Board of Trustees
Long-time Frederick County businessman and philanthropist Marvin Ausherman was recently appointed to the seven-member board of trustees at Frederick Community College for a five-year term by Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.
“FCC is the most important secondary institution that we have in the county,” said Mr. Ausherman. “It serves all Frederick County residents and provides a fabulous, solid education and stepping stone for residents. The Continuing Education area has evolved over the years and supports many area businesses as employees develop or learn new job skills. FCC is the place they go.”
The board meets monthly to make policy decisions, oversee the budget and serve as the institution’s governing body. The trustees also include Chair Dixie Miller, Vice Chair Debra Borden, Nick Diaz, Donald Linton and Doris White. Former Trustee Byron Grayson recently moved out of state and his board seat has yet to be filled. County Commissioner C. Paul Smith serves as liaison to the board and FCC President Dr. F.J. Talley is secretary/treasurer.
“Our board first and foremost is focused on helping to support the educational needs of our students through our outstanding faculty and staff,” said Ms. Miller. “We are pleased to have Trustee Ausherman join our board. Like any governing body, we are a team and each person brings something to the table. We look forward to working with Marvin in the years ahead.”
Mr. Ausherman has an extensive background in Frederick County real estate and business development, and has been active in a number of social and civic causes in the community.
Since 1974 he has been part of the Ausherman Homes and Ausherman Development Corporation, and was president and CEO of Ausherman Homes from 1987 to 2003 before it was sold to Drees Homes. His company built more than 5,000 homes in Frederick County and created over 18 communities. He was also instrumental in founding Blue Ridge Bank in 2007 and serves as its chairman.
In addition, Mr. Ausherman has served on the boards of many organizations including the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, Frederick County Habitat for Humanity, Frederick Memorial Hospital, Community Foundation of Frederick County, and Frederick Alliance for Youth.
Mr. Ausherman is married to Lisa Ausherman, and the couple has four children, three of whom attended FCC.
