FCC’s Institute for Learning in Retirement Fall Open House Sept. 14

The Institute for Learning in Retirement at Frederick Community College invites Frederick County residents age 55 plus to the Fall 2012 ILR Open House on Friday, September 14, 2012, from 10 a.m. to noon in the FCC Conference Center. The theme for the event is “A Sampling of ILR – Ala Carte!” Participants will meet ILR instructors, view the fall schedule of course offerings, tour the new ILR classroom and sample topic-themed refreshments.

No reservations are required, and the open house is free. Presentation of the fall course schedule is planned for 10:15 a.m., and students may register for courses while on campus.

Among the course offerings in this year’s extensive ILR menu are The Press and Presidential Elections; Palestine and Israel - Twice Promised Land; Shakespeare: Laughter and Lamentations; Exploring Digital Photography; Beginning Yoga; Great Literature and Great Minds of the Jewish Tradition; How to Sing; Black Holes: Cosmology’s Ultimate Creation; and Medically Curious? What You Need to Know, to name a few.

Participants can also learn of ILR’s unique Learning on Location educational tours to regional sites and its international travel opportunities.

The Institute for Learning in Retirement is a learning organization with more than 2,000 members who share the traits of intellectual curiosity, a variety of life experiences, and a desire to learn and grow. ILR offers short, casual classes, field trips and special events for adults age 55 plus.

Classes begin and end at varying times throughout the traditional academic term. There are no tests, grades, or homework. ILR provides a shared learning experience among interesting people and extraordinary instructors.
