FCC Music Scholarships Inspire Students of All Ages
03/19/2024
Frederick Community College (FCC) is thrilled to announce that it is now accepting applications for the Shields Music Scholarship Awards. These prestigious scholarships provide funding for music lessons to students from school-aged to college students, enabling them to explore and develop their musical talents while studying with FCC faculty.

The Shields Music Scholarship Awards have provided students with scholarships since 2000. In the 2023-2024 academic year, more than 70 talented recipients had the opportunity to explore various instruments including piano, woodwinds, brass, strings, guitar, percussion, and voice.

Applications for the 2024-2025 year are now open. FCC is committed to assisting students in their musical endeavors, offering scholarships in four distinct categories:

1. Merit: Designed for children aged 8 to 18 who have prior experience with private music lessons.
2. Developing: Tailored for children aged 6 through 14 who have not yet had the privilege of participating in private music lessons.
3. Continuing: Suited for children aged 7 to 15 who have completed one year of musical instruction at FCC under the Developing program mentioned above.
4. College Students: A special opportunity for students majoring in music who are entering FCC.

Interested students and parents are encouraged to visit our website to access the application and gather more information. The deadline for all scholarship applications is Friday, May 31, 2024.

To provide a fair evaluation process, auditions will be held on Saturday, June 22 (piano, guitar, and percussion) and Sunday, June 23 (strings, woodwind, brass, and voice) in FCC’s Jack B. Kussmaul (JBK) Theater. Audition times will be assigned to finalists by Sunday, June 9, ensuring ample time for preparation and excitement.

At FCC, we believe that music has the power to transform lives, and are proud to provide opportunities for students of all ages to explore and excel in their musical journeys. Apply today and let your passion for music soar!
