FCC Artist Recital Series will welcome back tenor Robert Baker, a Frederick native, and pianist Molly Orlando for a voice recital on Sunday, October 11.

“Songs Across Time: 150 years of American Folk, Parlour and Art Songs” is a program Baker has performed recently to great acclaim, and consists of original works and transcriptions by Stephen Foster, Douglas Boyce, Nicholas Maw, and Robert Parris.  Mr. Baker has met and collaborated with Boyce, Maw, and Parris.

“Robert Baker is one of the most respected tenors in this region, and his last performance at FCC was a beautiful recital of opera arias,” said FCC Artist Series Coordinator John Wickelgren.  “This upcoming concert should show a quite different side to Baker’s musical gifts and I know it will be a treat for everyone in the audience.”

A central figure in the Washington-area classical music scene, Robert Baker has been featured in more than 300 performances of 43 productions with the Washington National Opera. He has also sung ten roles with the Washington Concert Opera. Recent career highlights include the role of Ishmael in the world premiere of Peter Westergaard's Moby Dick at Princeton University (recorded for Albany Records), and his Metropolitan Opera debut in Prokofiev's War and Peace, which he also recorded during The Spoleto Festival's production, released on the Chandos label. Baker is also the Director of Performance Studies at the George Washington University.

Molly Orlando is recognized as a soloist, collaborator, teacher, and adjudicator throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC area. A native of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Molly graduated summa cum laude from the Catholic University of America, where she received her B.M. and M.M. degrees in Piano Performance as a scholarship student of Thomas Mastroianni and Marilyn Neeley.  She currently serves on the music faculty at George Washington University.  Orlando has recently performed in collaborations with members of the Kennedy Center Opera House and Philadelphia Orchestras and has appeared at the National Gallery of Art, the International Saxophone Symposium, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The 3:00 p.m. concert will take place in FCC’s Jack B. Kussmaul Theater. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and free for FCC students and staff.
