“A Textured Likeness” Features Local Artist Jamie Grubby in April
04/02/2014
The Mary Condon Hodgson Art Gallery at Frederick Community College will hold an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 for a new exhibit “A Textured Likeness” featuring the work of Jamie Grubby.

Grubby, a Frederick local, is an illustrator and painter whose work includes portraits, watercolors, mixed media, and abstracts.

After graduating from Savannah College of Art and Design with a B.F.A in Illustration, Grubby returned to her hometown of Frederick, Md., where she currently teaches classes at the Griffin Art Center.  She is also a published illustrator, member of the Portrait Society of America, and provided the cover art for the October-November 2011 issue of the Frederick Gorilla magazine.

“I have always enjoyed the process and journey of art making,” said Grubby.  “I have explored many art mediums since becoming an artist. Creating works of art that are mixed medium and collage allows me to bring elements of my favorite mediums into one piece.

“I strive to capture a person’s likeness, and develop a story and mood based on colors, symbols, and textures in all of my work,” she added.

“A Textured Likeness” runs through April 30.

The April 5 reception is free and open to the public.
