The Adult Education Program

External Diploma Program (EDP)

With the External Diploma Program (EDP) you can earn your high school diploma based on your life skills and not just on book knowledge. The program uses real-life situations to practice problem solving, critical thinking, speaking, writing and computation skills.

Some examples include:

  • reading a map
  • writing a letter to a potential employer
  • calculating loan interest
  • practicing comparison shopping
  • performing trade or occupational skills
  • demonstrating home management

In this self-paced program, you meet with an advisor weekly to discuss your progress and get assignments. The program takes approximately six to ten months to complete.

After earning your diploma, we recognize your achievement at an annual ceremony where family and friends celebrate your success, and county and college officials offer their congratulations.

To enroll, you must be at least 18 and attend a mandatory orientation session.  At the orientation session, you will be tested to see which level class is right for you.
