Energy Conservation Measures at FCC
|
|
Here is a list energy conservation measures that have been implemented at FCC to reduce energy consumption and reduce green house gas emissions.
- All interior fluorescent fixtures equipped with electronic ballasts
- 90% of all incandescent fixtures have been retrofitted with compact fluorescent lamps
- Use of all LED type exit light fixtures
- Utilizing heat reclaim chillers to provide sufficient heating water during the summer months
- All air handlers equipped with economizers to provide free cooling
- Variable frequency drives on most pumps and air handlers to supply an adequate volume of water or air as required by the current conditions and temperatures
- 50hp boiler installed to meet low heating demands
- Seasonal use of gas hot water heater for gymnasium showers instead of the 50hp boiler
- Cooling tower fans powered by either a 15 or 25 hp motor depending upon the load
- Classrooms in the Library building and Conference center equipped with motion detectors in order to turn off lighting and set back temperatures when unoccupied
- Utilizing a Building Automation System (Metasys) to provide energy management through:
- Cycling boilers and chillers as needed to meet the load conditions
- Controlling all VFDs to operate at the minimum speed needed to provide adequate volume of air or water
- Increasing or decreasing air and water temperatures based on outside air temperature
- Providing schedule of all HVAC equipment for normal operation during occupied periods and automatic “setbacks” for unoccupied periods
- Providing normal operation of site lighting using an internal “time-clock” and photocell
- Controlling multiple stages of cooling tower functions to meet load demands
