FCC June Art Exhibit: Mixed Media by Brent Jones
Mary Condon Hodgson Art Gallery July 11, 2012
Brent Jones will exhibit mixed media abstract paintings representing the beauty and chaos of life as Frederick Community College’s featured artist in June.
His exhibit will continue June 2 through July 11 in the Mary Condon Hodgson Art Gallery and opens with a reception Saturday, June 2, 2012, from 5-7 p.m.
Jones lives and works in Hagerstown, Md., but has taken several art classes as a student at FCC.
“I created two abstract paintings as an assignment for an art course with Peter W.T. Whitting 10 years ago. I had not painted for nearly seven years, but three and half years ago, I was inspired to recreate the process I had used earlier,” Jones said.
“I started painting again to deal with the stress and aggravation of everyday life, doing my best to appreciate every little moment life has to offer.”
“Creating these paintings provided a way to convey my emotions at a given time, whether stressed, or aggravated or in some cases, just determined to somehow show a picture of these thoughts, using these colors and shapes,” he said.
The paintings are created by layering paint and tape to create a combination of colors and textures.
“Beauty is found in chaos. My goal has been to capture the beauty within the chaos around us, using our emotions, the seasons, strife from changes in the world over centuries, over decades, over every year, month and week,” Jones said.
“I just wanted to capture these feelings, these moments, these recognitions, without having to use words or having to tie them directly to any preconceived notions or thoughts.”
The Mary Condon Hodgson Art Gallery is open Monday- Thursday 9:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Saturday 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. All exhibits and opening receptions are free and open to the public.
